Executive Director's Message
We hope you had an enjoyable Christmas and holiday season and a great start to the New Year. There are a number of special events that are planned for the Bush Library Center and we hope you include these in your new year’s resolutions!
On March 1, the Museum will open a long awaited baseball exhibit, Born to Play Ball, which will include special artifacts from the National Baseball Museum and Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. The exhibit is being sponsored by the Houston Astros.
Surrounding the exhibit will be a number of special events. On March 3, the Foundation will host a Baseball Forum that will include various baseball personalities--including Drayton McLane, owner of the Houston Astros. On April 2, the Foundation will hold a Sports Forum that will be hosted by President Bush and include noted sports announcer Jim Nantz.
The Library will also hold its popular High School Days programs in March and April for area high school students. The days for these events are March 5 and April 3. In addition, the Library will continue its Issues Forum.
The popular Classic Movie series will also be back. On February 14, The Pride of the Yankees, will be aired. You can also experience Angels in the Outfield on March 6 and The Jackie Robinson Story on April 10.
In keeping with the spirit of the presidential election year, the Bush Foundation hopes to host a number of the candidates from both parties. On the Republican side, the Foundation has already hosted Senator John McCain, Governor Mitt Romney, and Mayor Rudy Giuliani. This presidential series allows our community to get a first hand look at the candidates and to hear their plans for the nation, and we hope that many of the candidates will be able to join us.
On the international front, we have scheduled United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for February 29. On March 19, former Australian Prime Minister John Howard will make a presentation.
And do not forget the newly renovated core exhibit detailing the life and career of President Bush. The new exhibit has been attracting many visitors, so make sure you get in line for the fun and excitement that the new exhibit holds for all age groups.
We appreciate your support over the past year and look forward to everyone's continued support and participation. Have a great New Year and we look forward to seeing you at our events.
