Kenneth D. Lewis
Kenneth D. Lewis is chairman, chief executive officer and president of Bank of America. Lewis joined NCNB (predecessor to NationsBank and Bank of America) in 1969 and has served in a wide range of positions including corporate banking office, Western Area director in the U.S. Department, manager of NCNB’s International Banking Corporation, senior vice president and manager of the bank’s U.S. Department, Middle Market Group executive, and president of the company’s Florida and Texas banks. Lewis was president of Consumer and Commercial Banking before being named president and chief operating officer in 1999 and was named chairman, chief executive officer and president of Bank of America in 2001.

In 2002, Lewis was recognized as Banker of the Year by American Banker and as Top Chief Executive Officer by U.S. Banker.

Mr. Lewis was born in Meridian, Mississippi. He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from George State University. He also is a graduate of the Executive Program at Stanford University.

Lewis is a member of the board of directors of Health Management Associates Inc., a publicly owned operator of acute care hospitals; director of the Homeownership Education and Counseling Institute; vice chairman and immediate past chairman of the board of trustees of the National Urban League; member of the board of directors of Lowe’s Companies, Inc.; member of the board and past chairman of the Presbyterian Hospital Foundation; member of the Board of the Financial Services Roundtable; member of the Financial Services Forum; member of the board and the executive committee and past chairman of the United Way of Central Carolinas, Inc.; and member of the Committee to Encourage Corporate Philanthropy.
